Long day leading to enlightenment?
So today was my technical Monday (I worked 12 hours today, 12 hours tomorrow, and have an 8 hour class Monday) - and boy did it hit me like a ton of bricks! Being a nurse, you can never even begin to guess what kind of day you are going to have, even after getting a full report from the off-going nurse. Today was one of those days. Having finally finished with my critical care orientation, I have been on my own for a couple weeks now. But today I felt like a new nurse. Tons of questions, unsure about my choices, and whether I was ready for this. Sitting here on my couch feels a lot better than running like a chicken with its head cutoff. :) But, thanks to Mick, I gain a bit of insight. Although I'm not a new nurse, I AM new to this area of nursing. Did I feel confident as a nurse my first month as a nurse? My first 6 months? 9 months? Definitely not. It took a long time - and lots of curveballs to dodge - to get to where I am now. But for some insane reason I cant muster up that thought when I'm in the thick of it. Thank God for Mick to keep my head screwed on right! When I look back, I have to admit: I have come a LONG WAY! *sigh* Well, I guess I'll make another go of it tomorrow--and try to keep those thoughts in mind to get through another day... At least at the end of my day tomorrow, I will have a smiling 4 year old to pick up who thinks I CAN do it all...
